Readers,
Oftentimes when talking with my fellow spankos, the subject of spanking videos comes up – naturally. Lots of my friends refer to spanking videos as ‘spanking porn’, and I’ve even done so on a couple of occasions. However, I don’t consider most spanking videos that I watch to be porn at all, so I’m not sure how exactly a non-sex impact fetish video becomes ‘porn’.
Is it because of the nudity? No, there’s all kinds of non-sexual nudity in the world, all the time. Is it the hitting? Of course not. Hitting is rarely eroticized outside the BDSM community, I’d imagine(?). So what is it about nude + hitting that = porn?
I know, I know..there’s lots of spanking-sex videos out there, and I’m not averse to those even though they’re usually not my taste (I like my spanking and sex videos served separate most of the time); I’m talking here about straight up, domestic discipline videos and/or corporal punishment videos …are they porn? Are they spanking porn? Do you use the term, or find it unfitting?
By taking a look at search engine ratings, the term ‘spanking porn’ is searched many hundreds of times more, exponentially, than the term ‘domestic discipline’ or ‘adult spanking’ – is there a crossover with mainstream sex and adult video here, do you think? Are ‘vanilla’s’ interested in spanking too, when it’s wrapped up in an otherwise vanilla porn video? I don’t imagine that a whole lot of non-spankos spend their time running down strictly-spanking videos, but maybe I’m way off the mark here. (Sadly, not a lot of non-spankos are running down spanko blogs either, so we’ll likely not get much input on the subject from the 99.997%.)
But there’s always us, and I’m always curious about your opinions on any and all things spanking – and so are your fellow readers, so leave your two cents in the comments section and let’s have a Conversation!

Hmm? Good question. Several of videos you post with your Bottom’s Bottom, in my opinion, are “borderine” spanking porn. What has the feedback been on those?
I think it is much more of a natural progression, if you will, for a spanko to expand their kink into “spanking porn” than it is for those that are into “spanking porn” to progress themselves to strictly “spanking” videos. If so, I guess that would make them a “Latent Spanko”! Ha!
Generally speaking, “spanking” and “spanking porn” depends on the individuals that are shooting the scene. It could have a slight “spanking porn” bend to it…which I like to see every now and again. The one that stands out to me, is the video you shot with Angel where she was blindfold and you wore lace gloves etc. It was both hot and spank worthy!
And then again…..every single person is different. There is no way to get a base-line measurement of what “flips people’s switch” in terms of erotica. Hell, some people might get their kicks when they get the mail out of the mailbox or picking out soap! Who knows? Ha!
For me, on balance, I like to keep spanking and sex videos separate. Just my two cents. And btw, my two pennies are copper! Ha!
SGE,
Thanks for your copper pennies.~
Agreed, we could get all caught up in semantics on this one. To me – technically – even the saucier of my scenes aren’t really porn, in my opinion. Possibly erotic, but not porn. And this is from someone who’s perfectly happy with porn, just not seeing the connection.

I guess one would have to agree on the connotative definition of “porn” and “erotica” before seeing the connection.
I don’t like the term “spanking porn” either. But my bf says spanking videos are indeed porn (in his opinion). Why? Because fetish video is created with the intent to arouse, and to him, video with the arousal intention, straightforward sexual acts depicted or not, is pornography.
I can see his point, but I don’t think it’s that clear-cut. Then again, maybe it’s just semantics.
It seems a lot of vanilla folks find spanking titillating, so a little bit of it thrown into a mainstream porn video or a TV show gives them a little jolt. But I don’t think vanillas would enjoy a purely spanking video, with the hard-core marks and obvious pain and so forth. They may like the bare bottoms and peep shows, but once it gets seriously hard, I think many would turn off.
But for fetishists, the ones who really get off on spanking? To be blunt, they’re the ones watching these scenes, even the purely DD or CP ones, and jacking off. And to many, that’s what makes them qualify as porn.
I still don’t like it, though. I don’t like what we do being lumped in with gang-bangs and facials and so forth. Not that there’s anything wrong with those, but they are a different animal, IMO.
Erica,
Agreed. I guess it’s a little puritanical to some, that we don’t prefer to classify spanking videos as porn, but certainly not a judgment on porn. More of a judgment on definitions, maybe?
I get the fetishist perspective point, but, if that’s the case, what part of a typical, non-sex domestic spanking scene is the ‘(ahem) shot’? I’m just curious.
It depends on who defines “porn” and why. To some, a publication is pornographic if it arouses sexual responses or thoughts in the viewer. It doesn’t necessarily need to contain the usual suspects of nudity, conventional, or non-conventional sexual acts.
And who here hasn’t gotten at least a little sexually aroused when watching a spanking video, at least one that’s in like with your own personal interests or orientation.
The word ” porn ” is now I think used on many things that are a vice or addictive. Is there not “food porn ” and other additives like ” gaming porn ” ? It is how one views it I think. Surely those of a more conservative manner would see your videos as porn of a sort. Even those not intended for sexual purposes. I hardly think a young lady getting real correction even in a video would think of it as ” porn ” or something ” sexy ” rather she may view it as what it is intended, punishment or correction. I think it is hard to feel sexy with your tail roasting and you howling for mercy. So porn as a word has expanded it’s own meaning. And as always the view is in the eye of the beholder.
Porn or not I think a lady being corrected and helped to adjust her behavior over one’s knee is a wonderful and beautiful thing.
Talon
Good point, Talon.
As Erica and SGE pointed out, and you so eloquently observe, it’s mostly semantics. We can call literally anything ‘porn’ nowadays, almost as a catch-all term for something we consider especially good or attractive.
Is spanking porn? If it isnt why watch it?
Sometimes it can be fodder. Mostly because either wishing I was there, or remembering when I was. Watching the struggling bottom and hearing the cries and seeing mascara running down the eyes where they have shed a few tears. That is usually pretty hot.
Sometimes Its comic relief. When you are watching a SAM with a Disciplinarian who will tolerate some tom foolery can be all but spitting milk out of your nose funny.
but that is just my 2 cents
Robin
Robin,
It’s nice to hear from someone who identifies with the ‘hotness’ factor of disciplinary scenes. I’m still not sure we necessarily fit into the porn genre…but it ain’t National Geographic after all.
oxxo
I remember when an issue of National Geographic Magazine contained a photo of women with bare breasts. It was banned as pornographic in some schools. They DID get letters and became more cognizant of what was showing.
Of course spanking videos are porn. Pornography is just something intended to erotically stimulate, and of course spanking videos satisfy that need and desire.
You’re engaging in some creative intellectual gymnastics to characterize spanking videos as something other than porn — maybe because you don’t like the association, perhaps because you derive more mental or otherwise broader/varied stimulation from spanking material than you do from more overtly sexual erotica which you view as more crass or base (even if you also enjoy it at other times or in other contexts). But regardless of the reasons, preferring more varied nomenclature to more accurately distinguish between two things that feel quite different to you seems perfectly reasonable too!
Arrogant Brat,
It’s not intellectual gymnastics in my opinion. The street version definition of porn has and always will be Sex on Video. Spankings aren’t sex. And many MANY of the people with whom I play and speak are not even remotely erotically stimulated by spanking videos.
It also seems as though lots of folks use the word ‘porn’ to describe things like food: “Food Porn”, violence: “Murder Porn”, and the etc. Seems sloppy language to me.
But, you do speak the truth in that variance is what makes the world go ’round. To each his or her own terminology! ~
