An affinity for quality wooden implements

While I do love the smell and slap of leathers, and the swish of the cane makes me warm, the craftsmanship of wooden implements sometimes leave the strongest ‘impression’ on me, so to speak.

Not only for the sheer enjoyment I receive from the looks on the faces of my bottoms, but for the beauty and variation of the implements themselves.

An accidental stumbling-upon on Twitter lead me to KittysExoticPaddles.com, where I immediately fell in love with the Bolivian Rosewood Flapjack Paddle:

This love affair spurred further online investigations, which resulted in some beautiful and fearsome-looking paddles:

Bassett Woodworking makes lots of nice wooden things, but their custom wood paddles are what caught my attention. ‘Time Out’ is my favorite.

It would be impossible to list makers of great paddles without mentioning Wdspoone at maamyesmaam.blogspot.com. His craftsmanship and attention to detail are obvious.

Here are a few more interesting paddles I found:

Cane-iac Customized Paddle

  1. I had the “Deep Purple Passion Paddle” (gave it to my ex gf).

I still have the “The Black Walnut Sweet Spot” and it is by far my favorite implement. The build quality is simply great. I can just hold it in my hand and admire it. The edges are so well rounded – they are no edges any more – rather a half circle. It can be used otk and in other positions and it’s small enough to use it selectively.

The sting on my poor behind is however significant. If applied rapidly it would soon exceed my pain limit (yet I’m longing for that).

  2. If I could, I would send you a picture of a “paddle” I have that actually isn’t a paddle. But it does make a good one. It is a Maori war club, LOL, beautifully carved and just the right size. I have not used it on anyone except myself year ago and I don’t think I would like it used on me at all! That thing could really make an impression. It just plain hurts!

  3. @ Dana: Yes – the purple wood is beautiful!

The KittysExoticPaddles look like excellent craftsmanship.
Their website is pretty crappy but their woodwork seems to be wonderful.
They are not cheap (I would say they are expensive) but I guess the paddles are worth it. Their spoons look especially desirable/fearsome to me.

You might also want to have a look at the products from “MrZia” on Etsy. I bought two paddles there and they seem pretty much perfectly made. However – I didn’t feel them on my backside so far.

  4. the Time Out paddle brings Dave Brubeck to mind (OK, I’m dating myself) and what “fun” it would be to find a spanker (Dana?) who has the great rhythm to spank along in 5/4 time to Brubeck’s “Take Five”! It might take two hands…or two fast paddles

  5. Bobbie Jo, a Maori war club, wow! Sounds exotic…and painful. I’d love to see a photo.

nord, Like great food, quality shoes, and quiet vacations, good paddles are usually worth the splurge. Etsy, huh? I’ll take a look.

sweetsuds, That sounds like a fun challenge. Exhausting, but fun.

  6. Nothing beats the feel of a nice wooden Paddle on a bare bum. I’ll take a wooden paddle over the nicest cane any day. Kevin

  7. Hello Ms. Dana – Thank you so much for mentioning my paddles in such wonderful company! :) I take great pride in making the best quality paddles that remain affordable. I am honored to be mentioned here, thanks! :)
