Perspective #43

Everybody has one – a perspective, I mean. From where you’re standing things look, feel, and probably even smell different than they do to someone standing just a couple feet away, so imagine how much differently we see things from inside our own skulls. It’s a wonder we manage to communicate at all, considering that every single experience we have, as individuals, colors us – we are all specific, original, and one-of-a-kind.

This month/year/week, on the edge of turning forty-three years old, my perspective is naturally different than it’s ever been before (or ever will be again). And while I’ve no way to know exactly how I’ll feel, think, or perceive in the future, I can tell you – quite clearly – that I’m damn thrilled to still be in attendance, today.

I’m thrilled to be alive, healthy to a measurable standard, and living in a time and place that affords me the luxury of things like fair trade dark chocolate, walnut burl, and boredom.

I’m also dismayed at my body’s flat-out refusal to produce collagen at a rate which I find acceptable.

It’s a toss-up. But then every birthday is, isn’t it? No matter how much we bitch about getting older, it’s a large margin better than the alternative. And even on days when we say things like, “I’d rather die than..”, we rarely mean it. Not really.

The past year’s been tough.
It almost feels disingenuous to say that – every year is tough somehow, so typing the sentence, ‘the past year’s been tough’, could happen just about any time, and to anyone, and probably does.
With that said – it’s been tough. Tougher than usual, by my pretty tough standards. We lost my dear paul to an icky and awful illness and an even ickier set of circumstances…

I started to list a few of my other grievances from the past year, but nothing else can (or should) follow that, so enough said. For those of us lucky enough to be able to say, “Life goes on”, well, I guess we should be sure that it does, in abundance.

So that’s what I’m going to do with my 43rd year : Live. Abundantly.

I hope you do, too.

Great giant heaps of love (and dark chocolate),

– Dana

And take it from me a clean bill of health becomes even MORE precious with each passing year. I’m grateful to have it and expect to for many more years to come. I wish the same for you and your loved ones!

    1. We’re only getting better with age…unlike the cheap wine currently nested in a FABULOUS stiletto wine cuddly in my kitchen cabinet (out of the way of the workmen, who are STILL here). ~~

    1. Alyssa,

You’re such a sweetie – thank you! I’m having a helluva ’43’ so far, and haven’t even assaulted anyone (without their express written consent) yet, so SCORE! ~~

    1. Mike,

By my estimation, I will live to the age of 113 (don’t ask me why I’ve chosen that number, it just sounds good), so I’m not even CLOSE to halfway there.~~~

Thanks so much for the happy wishes, and the best of years to you, too.

  7. Dear Dana,

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, And one to grow on HAPPY, Birthday! You are such a sweet and loving person that has brought so much joy in our lives. We are proud to call you a great Friend.

I was thinking what I should do for your Birthday, I thought about sending you flowers, sending you a book, or even sending you a picture of myself. But, I figured you deserve something even better. SO……. I’ve decieded for your Birthday, I’m going to be 3x as naughty this year so you will have 3x more reasons to spank me! Now that is a gift that keeps on giving. No need to thank me, I know how extremely excited and appreciative you are of this gift.

    1. You guys freaking ROCK!! I love you so much, and I love the ridiculously extended happy birthday! And I cannot wait to spank the brat out of you…somehow…one of these days.

      oxxo

  8. How come you never post any photos of you in reality? Photos of you with your cats or something you love doing besides spanking? Any photos of you on vacation? Enjoying sports? We have seen the photos and videos of you spanking. We get that. You love it. But even celebrities will let loose and show their fans photos of them enjoying life — doing things other than work. Your fans would like to see you enjoying other things in life … even a candid selfie would be nice. We want to see the real you, the one your friends and family see….

    1. Reality,

Thank you for your first, and somewhat belligerent, comment.

I do occasionally post candid photos, but the truth is that you’re not entitled to see me playing with my cats, eating my dinner, or interacting with my friends and family. That’s why it’s called a Private Life, and everyone’s entitled to that.

      Have a nice day.

  9. Hey, my friend, Happy Birthday. Might be a bit late, with that, though. Been busy getting ready for the new hip I am looking forward to.

Hope the next year and the rest of this one is super good to you.

Here’s to dark chocolate, dark chocolate covered blueberries, raspberries and huckleberries! Oh, and more dark chocolate.

    xoxoxoxoxo

    1. Bobbie Jo,

Now you’re just being dirty…and I love it.

Cheers to many more for us both, and lots of smooth hip-sailing!

      oxxo

  10. 43 years, such a baby!

I love your spirit, humor and even wisdom. I think we all have our challenges in life (experiencing some right now), and seem to come through them.

My godmother died 10 days ago and Monday was a celebration of her life (89 yrs). It seems I see childhood friends at these events which seem to happen more and more these days. That being said, just think of how much more ABUNDANCE you can enjoy in another 40+ years!

I’m so very glad I know you and really do think of you (and those spankings) often! :)

Have a wonderful birthday (or birthday month as some of my friends say). Enjoy!

    1. Lynn,

Oh honey, I’m so sorry for the loss of your godmother. I’m sure that the best parts of her will live in the people whose lives she touched.

You’re such a strong and smart woman; keep doing EXACTLY what you do -out loud!

      Lots of love,

    2. Thank you Dana. Yes, my godmother and godfather (were) are part of the foundation of Los Angeles’ African-American community. Founders of the first black owned savings and loan (still in the community), founders of the LA NAACP, board of directors of So. Cal. Auto Club…..My godmother’s father designed and build the LAX restaurant (still the symbol of Los Angeles). There were hundreds of people at the celb. that was held in a performing arts theater she and my godfather help to create.

Anyway, thank you for you kind words. I hope I can see you before the end of the year.

Love right back at ya! xoxox :)

  11. Sweet Dana,

Oh my goodness! I hope I’m not too late to wish you a very happy 43rd birthday?

Happy Birthday Mamma Bear!! I LOVE YOU!

Keep on truckin! Your the BEST!!

    Sincerely,
    Kay

    1. Aww, don’t worry darlin’, I’m happy to pretend it’s my birthday again today – and every day! Thanks for the love.~

  12. Dear Dana,

I always look forward to your Blogs – Great fun! And I respect your desire for some privacy! but can I make a few fun comments:

I know from your words that you like Dark Chocolate – but THAT wouldn’t do me any good at all! I’m ALLERGIC to Chocolate! (Much to my Wife’s delight, she gets ALL that comes into our home!)

As for age, at nearer to 81 than 80 now, I am nearly TWICE your age! but I STILL enjoy life (I had a great 80 Stroke Birthday Caning) And only the other day, I spanked a Naughty Ladies Bottom! So I hope you can enjoy at LEAST as many productive years as I have (I would LOVE to have a 100th Birthday Spanking, an I even have someone who has booked in to give it to me! He He!)

God Bless you Dana – Here’s wishing you SO MANY good years ahead! (One day, I may even get to America again, and let you show me just how effective the “Curse of Dana” Paddle, REALLY is! :-D )

    Lots of “Platonic” Love, xxx

    Jack

    1. Thanks so much for the birthday wishes and kind words – it’s always nice to hear from you.
