‘The Chief’ over at Spanking Blogg is holding a fun nomination/voting for annual spanking awards. Seems that this is something another blogger has done in the past, but since they’ve apparently given it up, The Chief is going to be hosting the vote this year.
He’s asked that folks share the link so that he can get as many participants as possible, so click HERE to read the original post, and leave your picks in the comments section of his blog. I’m not sure how much longer you’ll be able to nominate your favorites, so get over there in a hurry if you want to participate. Otherwise, I believe that the actual voting comes after that, and there’ll be a reasonable period of time to vote. A couple weeks ago, The Independent published an article titled, “Role play, bondage and spanking: How we view the sex lives of politicos”, sharing a few spicy statistical excerpts from a book called, “‘Bedroom Politics: Party Images”.
Quoting the Independent article, “The British public believes Ukip supporters are bad in bed, Labour supporters are best, Lib Dems are boring and Conservatives are into spanking, according to a revealing new book.”
While I’m in no way qualifying the below statistics and have no way to confirm their accuracy – and also (probably shamefully) do not know a darned thing about the makeup of the British political landscape – the word ‘spanking’ is included in one of the graphs, so it’s worth looking at:

Okay kiddos, it’s been a crazy busy month and I’ve not had as much time to work on the blog as I’d like. As further proof, the below Myspace throwback Survey, an attempt at low-level amusement.

Pie isn’t high on my list of things to eat, but we always had Sweet Potato pie at Thanksgiving, which I loved. But only on Thanksgiving.

We covered favorite songs recently, but favorite band/singer is a bit more difficult, don’t you think? I dunno if there’s a particular band or singer to whose work I’m particularly dedicated. I do love just about everything from Sublime to 50 Cent to Alison Krauss.

Does chasing people around the sofa count as a sport? If so, count me in. Otherwise, I could not possibly care less about sports of any kind. I’d rather ride the bench.

There’s a feeling of isolation that sometimes comes along with being a bit different than those around us (the truth is that all of them are different, too, somehow, than everyone else) and we sometimes feel all alone in the world. Especially when you’re a part of some sort of minority, ours being the spanking-motivated kind, we all have occasion to feel as though we’re surrounded by people ‘other’ than us. As a way of relieving that notion, every year I have this handy little statistical thingy in the sidebar of my blog. As you can see, you can hardly toss a rock without hitting a fellow spanko, at least in many parts of the world..

A couple blog regulars have asked whether I’ll consider putting all (or the ‘best of’, anyway) the spanking story contests into ebook form(s), so that one can read them without having to navigate the hundreds of unrelated things on my blog.

What does it mean when we say that we have something ‘in common’? For example: spanking.
Many of us have spanking in common, right?
But how many of our preferences are the same? Maybe you prefer to be spanked, while I prefer giving spankings. Perhaps you have a preference for leather implements while the next person has a preference for wood.
So you and I both enjoy roleplay, let’s say. We have that in common. But you enjoy strict, domineering characters while I tend to prefer a firm yet loving demeanor.
Many who enjoy spanking play consider it an outright sexual turn-on, while just as many others (I believe) are not interested in incorporating sexual aspects into spanking.
A specific example: I love giving ‘good girl’ spankings. I also enjoy spanking just for the sake of spanking. My girl Angel, however, doesn’t quite compute the good girl spanking – her preference is for maintenance or disciplinary-type spankings. While we do, indeed, find many places to come together – as Angel receives a LOT of spankings – our specific tastes do not necessarily align in every area.
The point is that they don’t have to. My specific interests in the intricacies of the fetish do not have to be yours, and vice-versa (viva la difference and all that, doncha know?). There will still likely be many things on which we do agree, and we can chalk up those instances where we don’t to personal tastes. Whether within personal relationships or the broader spanking enthusiast community (as it were), a little open-mindedness goes a very, very long way.
I will not go so far as to suggest a group hug, but will say that I am always inspired when I see spankos coming together and sharing ideas with an open mind, for the common good of the community.

PS. Speaking of ‘common good’ – the Boardwalk Badness Weekend party is quickly approaching, and I am about as ready as a first-timer can be! I’ll be seeing lots of friends and meeting even more online ‘friends’ for the first time, as well as participating in a couple of fun activities. Here are the current results (as of 2/4) of the ‘Your Opinions on M/M Spanking’ Survey. I’m grateful for your thoughts on the subject, whether you’re a fan or not. Thanks to all who participated – the results are interesting.
219 Respondents:
“Do you enjoy M/M spanking?”
28% said YES.
18% find it mildly interesting.
51% said that they do not enjoy M/M spanking.
“If you DO enjoy M/M spanking, which possible scenarios appeal to you?”
75 respondents said that their interest is ‘Strictly Discipline’.
51 respondents said that their interest lies in ‘Authority Figures’.
And for around two dozen, ‘Eroticism’ or ‘Taboo’ is their motivation.
“If you’re NOT a fan of M/M spanking, why?”
79% said that they only enjoy F/M pairings.
“Is spanking eroticized/sexualized for you?”
64% said YES.
30% said that sometimes spanking is sexual/erotic, and sometimes not.
Only 4% of respondents said that spanking is NOT erotic/sexual for them.
“Have you ever participated in M/M spanking?” (Just for the fellas, obviously.)
A full 51% have not, and are not interested in the prospect.
16% said that they ‘wouldn’t completely rule it out’.
7% of respondents said that they haven’t, but definitely want to.
5% tried it and weren’t too impressed,
and 11% said that they enjoy and regularly participate in M/M spanking.
“Have you ever watched an M/M spanking video?”
18% said ‘Yes. I watch and enjoy them regularly.’
26% said ‘Yes. I occasionally watch M/M spanking, but they’re not my favorites.’
19% tried it but didn’t like it.
35% said ‘No. I have never watched an M/M spanking video.’
Not surprisingly, sexual gender preference seems to have the most effect on most commenting respondents reasoning behind liking or not liking M/M spanking. Those who are ‘into’ it echo the same theme – “A good spanking is a good spanking. Doesn’t matter who’s giving it.” – while those in the ‘No Thank You’ column stress that heterosexuality keeps them from enjoying M/M spanking based on spanking’s innate intimacy.
I don’t believe that there is a right or wrong when it comes to a person’s individual preferences, and there’s plenty of spanking to go around for all of us…thank goodness!

After more than a dozen posts under the umbrella of ‘Conversations with Spankos’, I’m interested to see what you’re interested in this year. What haven’t we covered thus far that’s of interest to your spanko mind?
In the past couple years, we’ve discussed things like safe words, gender preferences, boundaries, and bratting. We’ve touched on the subjects of ageplay, ‘outing’, and whether or not the stature of your top is relevant. Some things silly, some things serious, but all things we’ve all likely talked (or thought) about at least once.
I have some ideas for the upcoming year and ‘Conversations with Spankos’ (including a post on non-corporal punishments which I’m looking forward to, and another on the differences between discipline and punishment), but I always want to know what else you want to talk about. On what other things, big or small, in the world of spanking can we share our thoughts with one another?

Having received 199 responses thus far, here are the current results of the ‘Is Spanking Your Secret’ survey:
* About 60% of respondents say they’re a ‘lone spanko’, versus 40% who say that they have one or more spanking partners.
* 43% of respondents say that their spouse knows about their spanking interest, with 28% saying that they’ve told their friends. 39% say they’ve told no one.
* 32% of people responding to the survey said that the people who they’d shared their spanking interest with were curious and accepting. Only 3% said ‘they freaked out’ when told.
* A surprising 19% of respondents say they’ve been “outed”, without their consent. Wow.
* When asked about online activity, 40% called themselves lurkers or newbies, 27% somewhat active, and 25% social networking wizards.
* A full 57% of respondents said that there are, indeed, spanking implements in their homes – they’re just discreetly hidden. 9% admit to having theirs right out in the open.
* The spanking-goes-mainstream question has, thus far, shown the goodwill and optimism of the spanko community, as 53% believe that, with a little awareness, people will understand us more. (Please note that this was, by far, the most tongue-in-cheek option offered by your survey author.)

Once a month, readers can write in questions – about spanking, domestic discipline, etc., and I’ll choose a few to answer via video. I’m uncertain whether this would be a monthly topical discussion, or just a random Q & A. I doubt that I have the technological fortitude to run a live streaming podcast, so the video answers would likely be pre-recorded and uploaded to the blog.

Looking back on the totality of this blog, I’ve become even more aware of the talent shown in many of the spanking stories you have submitted. Rereading many of them, I’m again amazed at the sheer volume and quality of original spanking fiction that’s passed through the blog, from a lot of really dedicated writers.
So I’m tossing around an idea for a large compilation – an ebook – of great spanking stories.
The book would be a mix of reader-submitted stories and requested new writings from some of my favorite spanking authors.

Not every person who likes spanking videos wants to pay for an online download – some of us prefer things a bit more tangible, and others just don’t entrust our credit card numbers to an online porn site.
I know that technology is leading us all in the direction of all-online, all the time, but I also believe that there is still a large audience for hard media. Therefore, I have decided to begin producing DVD’s of my spanking videos. As with everything, I’ll be doing all the production myself, and I’m sure that the learning process will take a few weeks, but am looking forward to being able to offer my videos in DVD format for those who are interested.

In making different types of videos, I’ve found that along with doing a lot of spanking, I also enjoy recording the POV-style videos. (For those unfamiliar, POV stands for ‘point of view’ and usually feature one or more persons speaking or gesturing directly to the camera (you).)
A few men have remarked that – while they greatly enjoy receiving a spanking – they’ve really no interest in seeing another man over the female spanker’s lap. Others have commented that there’s something much more personal about the fantasy if one can put oneself, literally, in the position of the person being scolded.
In my opinion,POV-type video is excellent for scolding, threats, role-play and behavior modification-themed scenes, but I am curious what you think of the genre..

With a current response count of 332, the What Makes Us Tick – And Tingle survey is a great way to investigate the many ways in which we spankos come together…and differ.
Forty-four percent of respondents said that they were rarely (or never) spanked at home, with the majority of those who WERE spanked at home receiving hand spankings and/or beltings as the chosen form of discipline. A full fourteen percent (about 44 respondents) said that they’d never really been disciplined prior to adulthood and have no idea why they’re into it now.
Also, over fifty respondents so far have said that they were play spanked by another boy/girl of their age.
I found the numbers for ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’ – a question about self-spanking to be particularly interesting:
I have never self-spanked, and have no interest in trying. 19%
I have tried self-spanking but found it unsatisfying. 38%
I self-spank occasionally, but only out of necessity. 17%
I like self-spanking from time to time, and find it pleasurable. 14%
I often self-spank and thoroughly enjoy the sensation. 6%
A whopping one hundred fifty-four (154) respondents, a full 46 percent, said that they’ve never managed to have a good cry during spanking, but are hopeful.
For those hopeful masses, five percent answered that they’d cried once during a spanking…and it was amazing.
66% of you like scolding – but no humiliation.
14% like it (verbally) rough.
A full half of all respondents said that, while they’d love to attend, there have been no spanking parties/gatherings for them. Twenty-seven percent have no interest in attending; and a few of you have been to nearly every party on the block.
I am particularly grateful for the mere 7% of female respondents, but cannot neglect the other 90+% who are male (70 percent over 40):

I would appreciate your opinions on a subject that comes up from time to time, usually referred to as ‘distance training’.
Occasionally, I receive a request for distance training -what I call guided self-discipline, and am always happy to consider. However, to date not a single prospective correspondent has shown the application, attention to detail, or mental fortitude necessary to carry out ‘distance training’ as I define it. I am certain that these people do exist – these people who, through a lot of personal strength and support, can maintain a guided self-discipline program – or do they?
Is guided self-discipline in itself an oxymoron?
Let’s look at some other, more commonly-used ideas associated with ‘guided self discipline’:
Self-help books, and tapes, and books-on-tape, and meetings, and retreats, and gurus;
special diets, special exercises, special clothing for the exercises, and especially expensive price-tags on all of it;
yoga, meditation, motivation.
All of the above ‘proven’ to work, I might add (except maybe the price-tags).
How does self-discipline work for you? And, do you believe yourself (or others) capable of maintaining or improving yours through guided disciplinary behavior counseling (including spanking-related self-discipline and other activities)? Does this seem like a viable way of maintaining ones’ self-discipline, or just another type of role-play for spankos?

Two hundred and eighty-nine of you took the time to complete the most recent ‘Spanking Preferences’ Survey. Thank you, two hundred and eighty-nine times.
35% of respondents said that they participate in spanking occasionally with a play partner.
22% play occasionally with their relationship partner.
Thirty-nine respondents (about 13%) said that they are currently in a Domestic Discipline relationship. Nice!
And forty (14%) said that they are inactive, and do not participate in spanking play at all. Not so nice.
Find someone you like and spank them. Or ask them to spank you.
Twenty-eight percent said that they either do not participate in role-play, or only participate rarely. The other 72% are up for just about anything.
Only twenty-eight of you (about 10%) said that you prefer no scolding with your spankings. The other ninety percent were pretty evenly divided between a little and a lot.
46% prefer a hard spanking that leaves a few marks (7-8 on the Sensitivity Scale). Only four respondents said that they prefer their spankings at the 1-2 level, and…surprisingly…only four said that they like to go 10+ on theirs.

During a recent spanking I asked for a verbal acknowledgment of the current level of discomort that my bottom was experiencing – a ‘check-in’, so to speak. Unable to properly vocalize this, my spankee was at a bit of a loss. In a follow-up communication I received an excellent question.
The question was something like: “With no prior experience to build on, how do I determine the difference between, say, a 5 and a 6? What do YOU consider a 5 or 6, and, how do I figure that out?” (Let me interject that the inquirer’s language was much more succinct…)
My reply: ‘In studying tolerance and ‘rating’, I’ve found that everyone has a different set of factors in determining their 1-10 scale. As we communicate and (both) learn your tolerance and needs, you will come to develop your own system. It is my job to interpret your scale, not the other way around. As your experiences increase, you’ll have more data to decide these nuances.’
I am curious now – how do all of you determine your tolerance? What factors are considered? Strictly pyhsical discomfort, psychological/emotional state, verbal interference, environment? (I understand that the use of a 1-10 scale cannot be interpreted literally, but is a technique that I use occasionally to determine the general comfort/discomfort level of a playmate if it is not immediately apparent.)
Also, do you other spanking tops ever employ a base 10 scale for determining pain, tolerance, or discomfort? If so, how do you relate to the determinations made by your bottoms?

* For the question “How would you categorize your Spanko Status?”, thirty-nine percent (39%) chose “I participate occasionally in spanking with a play partner.”; eighteen percent (18%) of respondents selected “I am an active lifestyle spanko.”; “I am in a domestic discipline relationship.” and “I participate in spanking occasionally with my relationship partner.” both scored seventeen percent (17%); only six percent (6%) selected “I am an inactive spanko..”.
